Being a human, we all have a phase when we can’t control our emotions and take a bad step. The step we take in the emotional intoxication state- 95% of the time is wrong and brings complications in our life. What if we can regulate our sentiments and use that for good; then what will be the result? With this in mind, a new area under discussion was born, which is called ‘Emotional intelligence.’

What is Emotional intelligence?

Emotional intelligence or emotional quotient is the capability to learn, apply, and maintain your personal emotions in the definite means to reduce stress, communicate adequately, understand others, win hurdles and reduce disagreements. Here you need to identify the hidden dark factor from your heart’s inner side and then positively channel that emotion for a greater cause. Indeed, a higher emotional intelligence rate can be positively used for the improvement of personal development and our society.

History:

The phrase ’emotional intelligence’ was initially used in 1964 but earned popularity in 1995 by famous science journalist Daniel Goleman’s book named- ‘Emotional Intelligence.’ From time to time, different models are used for this cause. Some of them are- Ability model, Mixed model, and Trait model. Research proves that high EI people have more exceptional leadership skills, work performance, and better mental health. They always like to remain faithful, and 90% of the time, they skipped a casual relationship. The matter is basically linked with the compassion of the human mind because it includes a person combining their expertise mixed or channeled with emotions for others. If a person wants to enhance himself as a more competent organizer, he or she must follow the models correctly.

Components of emotional intelligence:

The different elements of emotional intelligence are-

Self-awareness

How your sentiments and actions affect the people nearby is called Self-awareness. When you have a clear idea about your strengths and weaknesses, then you can act with care. Behaving sensibly with others is also a key factor for Self-awareness. If you contribute a few minutes every day, narrowing down all of your thoughts, you can have a great impression by hand! Then it will take you to an extraordinary point of self-awareness. If you feel anger or different forceful emotions, just slow down to explore the reason. Always remember, every mystery has a new means of explaining, and you have to decide the correct path that will not impair others.

Self-management

Self-control is another angle that is very important when we are considering emotional intelligence. Self-regulation is all about staying in control. Never hurt others, neither verbally nor physically. Sometimes a single bad word can make the whole situation crack. But a person with self-control never acts in a rush. When you recognize your values, your limits and follow a code of ethics, you will get the victory. Remaining calm in every situation is also necessary for this. Self-management is also taught to admit to your mistakes, face the consequences, and then direct your stress to solve a challenging situation without bothering or abusing others.

 Motivation

Behind this single word, there is a whole sea of wisdom and understanding. If you don’t know your goal, then how can you motivate others? If you are a motivational speaker or influencer, you always encounter a group of people staring at you. By sharing your success stories, you motivate them to do similar but with their different ways. But, if you need some motivation, then what! Consider yourself lucky because you are reading this, and in this exact moment, someone is suffering somewhere. Maintain a purpose in front of you and know where you stand. If you deliver with greater quality and remain helpful to others, you will soon become an example of a motivational person. Don’t judge yourself or others by their success or failure; try to find the reason behind that and help them achieve success. This is the ultimate way!

Empathy

Having empathy is critical for everyone. Without it, you can’t put yourself in someone else’s situation. For this reason, you need to always help rising others on their tram, challenge others who are acting unfairly, give constructive feedback, and listen to those who need it. If you like to have respect and honor from others, then show them that you care by being empathic. Always respond to their feelings. Sometimes they will feel hesitant, but if you can read their body language or pay attention, you may also put yourself in someone else’s situation. Not everyone has the same mood at the same time, so your fragment of empathy will act as an elixir for them too.

Social skills

If you are open and accept what is- then you do have better social skills. A well-mannered conversation can resolve conflicts, end problems, and more. When you act with diplomacy, then no one can wreck you. Always learn to listen to others and then praise and offer your verdict. This way, your surroundings will feel more connected and will have respect for you.

Emotional intelligence vs. Intelligence quotient:

However, a person with higher EI doesn’t always mean that he or she also has a better IQ or Intelligence quotient. IQ or Intelligence Quotient is a popular way measure of a person’s relative intelligence. In contrast, EI represents the ability to recognize and maintain emotions, including the emotions of other peoples, for something positive! The IQ has the parameters like- logic, memory and recall, verbal reasoning, mathematical reasoning, spatial reasoning, etc. But the EI has the factors like- self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, responsible decision making, relationship skills, etc. They are totally different tests to determine you and yourself.

A person with a better IQ can become a scammer or something bad, but a person who has a relatively high EI never does such things. If you want to be successful in your life, then you should need to have a better number for both. Without smartness, logic, decision making, or kindness, you can’t be a leader who can channel or lead a group towards betterness. ‘Street smart’ peoples may consider this differently, yet you necessitate considering every feature of both and practicing them for your success.

Final words:

Lastly, it’s not necessarily bad to score a lower IQ or EI. Being human, you can always learn and adapt while acting smartly. These things can be possible if you combine your skills with your compassion while making a decision. They are just numbers; while you are a part of society who has a collective chance of causing revaluation by correctly doing the right things!
